Toby the cat who was a whiz at computers
Toby wasn’t like other cats. Sure, he still napped in sunny spots, chased the occasional moth, and demanded food at the most inconvenient times, but when everyone else thought he was curled up on the desk for warmth, Toby was actually keeping a very close eye on the glowing screen.
It all started one evening when Michael left his laptop open. Toby, curious as ever, padded across the keyboard. Instead of typing nonsense, he somehow opened a terminal window and began tapping with unusual precision. By the time Michael returned, Toby had written three perfectly valid lines of code and executed them flawlessly.
From then on, Toby’s secret talent only grew. He could debug in seconds, outpace Google searches with his lightning-fast paw taps, and had a knack for sniffing out typos like they were hiding mice. Clients often wondered how Michael managed to solve problems so quickly. Little did they know, their brilliant fixes often came from a striped cat with green eyes and a twitching tail.
But Toby wasn’t just about code. He loved design too. He had a keen eye for colour palettes, always nudging the mouse toward a softer blue or a warmer orange. His favourite pastime was pawing at the scroll wheel to check if a website’s layout flowed nicely. If he disapproved, he would simply sit on the keyboard until Michael fixed it.
One day, Toby saved the day in spectacular fashion. A server had gone down in the middle of the night. Michael slept peacefully, but Toby heard the alert ping. He padded over, logged in with a perfectly timed paw-swipe, and rebooted the system before anyone noticed. By morning, everything was running smoother than ever.
Of course, Michael eventually discovered the truth. At first, he thought it was coincidence, but the evidence was overwhelming: logs with paw-shaped smudges, a perfectly written script saved under “meow.sh,” and the fact that every project suddenly had a subtle cat emoji hidden in the code comments.
From then on, Toby became the official “Chief Technology Cat.” His payment was fair: endless treats, plenty of lap time, and all the cardboard boxes he could fit into. Clients still never knew, but whenever they marvelled at how polished their site felt, Michael would glance down at Toby and smile.
After all, every genius needs a little help—and sometimes, that help just happens to be furry, whiskered, and partial to tuna.
